National Wellness Month Promotes Healthy Habits

August is designated as National Wellness Month, a time to focus on care and establishing healthy habits that carry throughout the year.

Givens Communities recognizes that wellness is especially important for seniors. Through life enrichment activities, older adults need to maintain a well-rounded lifestyle tending to mental, physical, emotional and social needs.

The vision of Resident Services Department at Givens Estates in Asheville is to be a compassionate and holistic support system that empowers each resident to live with dignity, purpose, and well-being throughout their aging journey.

“We envision a Resident Services Department where spiritual care, social work, and nurse navigation come together in seamless collaboration-honoring the whole person by addressing their emotional, physical, social, and spiritual needs,” said Joshua Arendt, Resident Services Director. “There are special interest groups that convene regularly to discuss chronic illnesses and provide health education. Additionally, through the nurse navigator, there are opportunities for personalized wellness guidance, including advice on diet, exercise, stress management, and medication management.”

At Givens Highland Farms in Black Mountain, innovations for senior vitality and seeking ways to achieve wellness and quality of life means “meeting residents where they are,” said Jennifer Trent, Resident Services Director. A full calendar is available with opportunities for resident to expand social connections, receive personalized preventative care, and enjoy the many benefits of an ideally-located community that supports senior independence and inclusion.

Givens Affordable Communities of Givens Gerber Park in south Asheville and Givens Great Laurels in Waynesville embrace that mission as well.

“Our supportive services team in collaboration with our community nurse assists residents in maintaining independence through coordinated care, advocacy, and wellness programs tailored to seniors,” said Heather Winn, Affordable Communities Director of Property Management. “Residents thrive with their preferred retirement lifestyle, as they live confidently, comfortably and affordably.”
