Senior Living Communities Battle Loneliness With Friendship, Social Activities
According to U.S. News & World Report, moving into a senior living community can lessen an older adult’s sense of isolation and loneliness.
The media outlet surveyed senior living residents and their families about experiences with loneliness and health effects of social isolation. More than 69% of older adults surveyed said they felt lonely much of the time before moving into a senior living community, with 85% of respondents reporting making friends following moving into a community.
Also, 53% attributed their loneliness to physical disability or lack of mobility, but 33% of participants said that their health condition improved after moving into a senior living community.
